Allergen labelling changes come into effect
Guidance for food businesses regarding rule changes for prepacked food for direct sale
All food prepacked for direct sale (PPDS) must now be labelled with ingredient and allergen information. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) have released detailed guidance to help businesses comply with the rules.
The guidance provides detailed information on what food businesses are required to provide on the packaging of the PPDS food they sell.
It also includes information on the legislative labelling requirements, as well as related information that the producers of PPDS food will find helpful such as Quantitative Ingredient Declaration (QUID), multipacks, food additives and flavouring and the responsibilities of food businesses and suppliers.
See labelling guidance for Prepacked for Direct Sale (PPDS) food products.

The FSA has also designed sector-specific guides to provide further information on PPDS for different types of food businesses.
The guides have been produced to address issues specific to the following sectors:
- butchers
- bakeries
- restaurants, cafés and pubs
- fast food and takeaways
- mobile sellers and street food vendors
