Consultation on revocation of EU GoOs and Combined Heat and Power GoOs

Views sought from local stakeholders on how the revocation of EU GoOs and Combined Heat and Power GoOs will affect Northern Ireland

The Department for the Economy (DfE) has launched a consultation on the revocation of EU Guarantees of Origin (EU GoOs) and Combined Heat and Power Guarantees of Origin (CHP GoOs).

The Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO) scheme provides transparency to consumers about the proportion of electricity that suppliers source from renewable generation. Following the Brexit implementation period, Ofgem continues to issue REGOs to UK generators and EU GoOs continue to be recognised by the UK. 

However, since 1 January 2021, UK REGOs are no longer recognised in the EU. The purpose of this consultation is to seek the views of stakeholders on how they envisage the revocation of EU GoOs and CHP GoOs will affect Northern Ireland.
