Draft environmental principles policy statement consultation

Views sought on how to interpret and proportionately apply environmental principles across government policy.

The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) is consulting on a draft environmental principles policy statement (EPPS), which sets out how five internationally recognised environmental principles should be interpreted and proportionately applied to policy making.

DAERA has a legal duty to prepare and publish a policy statement. When fully in force, all Northern Ireland government departments and United Kingdom government ministers making policy for NI will have a statutory duty to have due regard to the statement.

This consultation provides an opportunity for stakeholders to provide feedback. Your input will help DAERA to fully understand and consider the impacts of the EPPS to refine the document.

Find out more about the consultation and how to respond.

The consultation will close on Monday 9 December 2024.
