Belfast City Council is supporting the NI Executive with funding opportunities, events and training

Belfast City Council is supporting the NI Executive to roll out the Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWAG) Strategy.

This support includes funding opportunities, events and training for Belfast-based community and voluntary organisations.

The Local Change Fund

The Local Change Fund is a new grant scheme for community and voluntary groups.

Grants of up to £5,000 (Tier 1), £15,000 (Tier 2) or £25,000 (Tier 3) are available to deliver projects that will help to change the attitudes, behaviours and culture of violence against women and girls in Belfast.

Tier 1 of the programme is open until Friday 28 February 2025, and Tier 2 and Tier 3 are open until Monday 17 February 2025.

Networking and funding advice event

Belfast City Council is holding an event on Monday 3 February 2025, from 10am to 3pm, at Belfast City Hall, where you can find out more about the work that is taking place, meet with others keen to deliver projects, and get advice on applying to the Local Change Fund.

Free training for community and voluntary groups

Belfast City Council is also offering free training for Belfast-based community and voluntary organisations who want to better understand the issues around ending violence against women and girls and how they can support this work.

Training dates:

  • Monday 3 February 2025, 2pm to 4:30pm - Inverary Community Centre
  • Thursday 6 February 2025, 10:30am to 1pm - Suffolk Community Centre
  • Tuesday 11 February 2025, 10:30am to 1pm - Horn Drive Community Centre
  • Wednesday 12 February 2025, 2pm to 4pm - Venue to be confirmed
  • Thursday 27 February 2025, 10:30am to 1pm - Venue to be confirmed

Personal safety events

Free personal safety events will take place in community centres throughout Belfast in January and February 2025.

These sessions will provide practical self-defence skills and information to improve confidence and self-awareness:
