Funding for digital therapeutics in mental health

£3.7 million for XR solutions addressing mental health

Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), is investing up to £3.7 million in innovation projects through the Mindset extended reality (XR) competition.

The goal is to create digital therapeutic XR solutions to support mental healthcare services.

Projects should have the potential to be adopted at scale and integrated into the UK’s mental healthcare system. They should focus on the following key areas:

• the application of extended reality, including virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality, haptics, holograms, immersive software, and audio
• solutions that help reduce impairment, disability, and distress for people with moderate to severe mental health conditions, particularly where these issues affect education, work, or daily life
• solutions for use across all levels of mental healthcare, with the potential for regulatory approval and wide-scale adoption

Projects must have eligible costs between £200,000 and £300,000, and should last between 12 to 18 months. All project work must be carried out in the UK, with the aim to exploit results within the UK market.
