Global Talent visa best practice workshop
UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is hosting a best practice workshop on 13 March 2024, at the Merchant Hotel in Belfast
The workshop will focus on the Global Talent visa, a specialist visa for researchers in science, medicine, engineering, humanities, and social science seeking to carry out research in the UK.
The workshop is designed to help share experiences and knowledge of using the visa, and to increase individual and organisational-level confidence and efficiency in recruiting international applicants.
The workshop will offer an introduction to the current evidence on the importance and impact of international mobility to the UK’s research and development system. It will specifically focus on the Global Talent visa, including:
- the end-to-end journey
- the selection of the correct visa route
- efficiencies and common errors
- clarity of the endorsing body and Home Office roles
The agenda will also cover the Government Authorised Exchange visa (temporary work) for short-term mobility of international researchers. Time will be set aside to address focus areas requested by attendees via the registration form
A Global Talent visa recipient will also share their own experience, and you will get a chance to meet and network with others working in similar roles, creating a sense of shared endeavour in attracting international talent.
This workshop aims to attract those working in research organisations and establishments, including higher education and public sector institutions, within the following roles:
- an HR or immigration compliance professional
- a Head of department
- faculty staff, or
- otherwise engaged in attracting and recruiting international talent
Please note that this workshop will focus on the academic and research routes to Global Talent visa endorsement. The routes to endorsement by Arts Council England and Tech Nation will not be covered.
The workshop is hosted by the UKRI with support from the UK National Academy Global Talent visa endorsing bodies - The British Academy, The Royal Academy of Engineering and The Royal Society.
