Low Carbon Hydrogen Supply 2 Competition

Proposed £60 million competition aims to catalyse innovation to develop world leading hydrogen technologies for a future hydrogen economy

The Low Carbon Hydrogen Supply 2 (HYS2) competition aims to accelerate the development of a wide range of innovative low-carbon hydrogen supply solutions to enable development of a hydrogen economy compatible with net-zero targets.

Low carbon hydrogen will be critical for meeting the UK’s legally binding commitment to achieve net zero by 2050. Hydrogen has an essential role to play in the deep decarbonisation of the UK economy, with potential to help decarbonise “hard to electrify” UK industrial sectors, and provide greener energy across heat, power and transport.

It is proposed that the competition will be delivered via two streams:

  • Stream 1 will be for market entry projects
  • Stream 2 will be for more mature projects that can proceed quickly and play into the government's agenda to scale-up hydrogen use, as well as potentially providing a pipeline of projects for the £240 million Net Zero Hydrogen Fund

The government wants to gauge the level of interest in the proposed competition. If your business is interested in applying to the competition, you can complete an expression of interest form.
