BPR - Biocidal Products Regulation
Introduction
If you supply or use biocidal products, you need to check what duties you have under the Biocidal Products Regulations (BPR).
Biocidal products are used to destroy harmful organisms like pests or bacteria, by the action of the active substances contained in the biocidal product.
They include products such as:
- disinfectants, eg hand sanitzers
- preservatives eg wood preservatives
- pest control
Once the active substances contained in that biocidal product are approved, all biocidal products (with some exemptions) require an authorisation before they can be placed on the market.
This guide will explain to anyone who supplies or uses biocidal products in Northern Ireland and / or Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales), how the EU BPR and GB BPR rules might affect their business.
Keep up to date with BPR
To keep up to date with news on EU BPR, such as updates on consultations, upcoming deadlines for active substances and additions to Annex I, you can register for the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) weekly email.
You can also sign up to Health & Safety Executive (GB) eBulletins to keep up to date on any information relating to GB BPR, which is important if you wish to access the GB market. This service also provided updates relevant to NI.
