Portadown Flood Alleviation Scheme consultation

News article

Views sought on a scheme to reduce the impact of flooding from the River Bann on properties in the Portadown area.

The Department for Infrastructure (DfI) is encouraging the local community in Portadown to have their say on the Flood Alleviation Scheme for the area.

Portadown has faced many flooding episodes over the last few decades. This includes during Autumn 2023 when widespread flooding across the region, after the wettest October in over 153 years of records, resulted in many watercourses in the south and east of the country rising to record levels.

Proposals are being developed to reduce the risk of river flooding to over 380 homes and businesses at 21 different sites across the Portadown area. Design of the project is nearing completion but DfI would like local community input.

An Environmental Statement for the scheme has been produced and was consulted on in Spring 2023. Since then, an additional site has been identified at Baltylum Meadows and designs have been further developed to address comments received during the initial consultation. DfI would now like public and business views on this update to the original Environmental Statement.

Find out more about the consultation and how to respond.

The consultation will close to responses on Monday 27 May 2024.
