Employment-related tribunal claims
Introduction
Guide
Employment-related tribunals (Industrial Tribunals and the Fair Employment Tribunal) hear cases and make decisions on a range of employment issues.
Industrial Tribunals hear nearly all cases involving employment disputes. The Fair Employment Tribunal will hear cases that involve discrimination of any aspect of alleged political opinion or religious belief.
An employment-related tribunal is not as formal as a court, however, it does comply with statutory rules of procedure and acts independently. Both types of tribunals operate in much the same way.
This guide looks at why employment-related tribunal claims arise, how to make and respond to claims, and how to avoid claims going ahead or prevent them from arising in the first place.
