How to use inland border facilities

Introduction

Guide

Inland border facilities (IBFs) are government sites where customs and document checks can take place away from busy port locations.

These sites act as a government office of departure and/or destination where hauliers can start and end journeys when moving goods in and out of the United Kingdom, under the Common Transit Convention (CTC). They can also be used for Admission Temporaire or Temporary Admission (ATA) Carnets, Transport International Routiers (TIR) Carnets and Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) checks.
